Longwave Ripples

Another pebble caused an avalanche of thoughts to pour out onto the screen this evening. My daughter came running up the stairs to share her new find in her grandfather's basement. She found a very old radio and figured out how to get it to work. It turned out to be a Shortwave Radio that my husband used to listen to when he was young.

Having been born at a time when such radios rarely made an appearance, my daughter decided to share her find with her brother. That moment, that find, that point in time, sparked curiosity and gave birth to a memory.

That special moment, happens with many of us; the moment the pupils dilate with wonder and the love of learning excites the brain. It is the moment that fashions an unforgettable memory. The moment when old memories are awakened of actions taken and decisions made that started waves and changed the course of lives.

Turning on the radio not only launched my family into other worlds and languages, it played a part in connecting us together through adventures that colored our minds. That radio was a window to the world. It helped young people leave a sheltered life to explore the unknown. It helped in merging different lives and forming strong connections that will last a life time.

Let us keep exploring and discovering. Continue to love to learn and make memories.
